Cosmetic dentistry gets the attention, but a beautiful result sitting on inflamed tissue is a temporary result. The frame has to be right before the picture goes in.
The eye reads the gum line first
Symmetry of the gum margins across the front six teeth does more for a smile than the shade of the teeth themselves. A single tooth whose margin sits a millimetre lower than its twin is immediately noticeable, even to someone who could not tell you why.
Inflammation changes everything
Swollen tissue sits higher, bleeds on contact, and will recede once it settles. Bonding or veneering to an inflamed margin guarantees a visible dark line within a year, as the tissue returns to its true position and exposes the join.
The sequence that works
Stabilise the periodontal tissue. Wait for it to mature, usually six to eight weeks. Photograph the settled margins. Then design. It adds two months to a treatment plan and it is the difference between a result that lasts two years and one that lasts fifteen.
